New Hurdle Conquered
I have been waiting for this day. The day that Jian would feel confident enough to practice in public the things she has been practicing in our home. Tonight after CrossFit, everyone was just kind of doing their own thing. Jian and I were across the room and needed to go over and get our bags so that we could leave. I quietly asked her if she could try to take a few steps independently since no one was really paying attention. She took several steps (6-8) then paused and looked up at me. I asked her if she could walk across the entire room unassisted. She thought about it. I told her I’d give her a dollar. She said, “How about two?” Ok. Two. She got me again.
But she did it! She was courageous and focused and comfortable enough to walk across a big open space in front of other people without holding onto anything! We have been dealing with some tough issues lately, so I think we were all uplifted to see this determination again. Hopefully this will carry over inside restaurants and inside of our church building. I really can’t wait to see what she is able to do after she has been home for a whole year!
